Canoe rentals are a great way to tour Big Bear Lake since canoeing gets you closer to nature. We recommend watercraft sports as a relaxing alternative to your normal exercise regime as well as a great social activity.
Canoeing is great for connecting with each other but also fantastic for enjoying nature and the great outdoors. Families find that getting the kids into boat rowing or paddling a canoe helps to get rid of some of their excess energy and assists in getting them into a deep sleep.
Big Bear Lake offers the canoeist a peaceful way to take in the views around the Big Bear Valley. Watercraft excursions are suitable for people of all ages and canoeing abilities. Our fleet of canoes and vessels includes rental of all types. The wide selection allow you to take and enjoy a self-guided canoe trip around the lake or allows casual paddling not too far from the marina or shoreline.
In case you don’t know, Captain John’s Fawn Harbor & Marina Big Bear offers the perfect spot for picnics, a game of horseshoes, swimming, sunbathing or relaxation lakeside on the shore. This year our lakeside beachfront offers amazing opportunities for angling from a boat or shoreline fishing for either bass or trout.
Whether you decide to take one of our eco-friendly nature tours or opt for a self-guided canoe rental, you’ll enjoy the serenity of the high altitude scenery while getting better views of the wildlife found in the nearby nature preserve. If you are up for it, sign up for one of our staff guided watercraft tours. You can pick your vessel (canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard) and enjoy a leisurely discovery tour that will let you view some of the local wildlife and glimpse a variety of birds.
You might not know that Big Bear Lake sits below the Pacific Flyway so you’ll find bird watching is at its best from the lake surface. Keep your eyes and ears open for different species and share your unique sightings with our staff when you check out. A canoe allows a fun and less disturbing option for wildlife viewing.
Captain John’s kayak and canoe rental is open seven days a week during peak season (May – September) but we also offer off-peak fishing boat rentals, boat services and dock services (October – April).
